Idea: Confirmation for Quitting Lesson
It has happened to me many times, and I'm sure that it has happened to too many other people. You are happily cruising a lesson, as I was, then you accidentally click a link or the back button. All your progress is lost.
This is especially easy to do on a Macbook, where all it takes is swiping two fingers.
I've seen that many pages have a pop-up, sometimes they are annoying, but many times they are useful. It's just a little box thrown up by the script if the user tries to close the page or go back before the script is complete.
I propose that Duolingo should add a similar pop-up for lessons so that users cannot accidentally exit a lesson and lose all of their progress.
It happens so frequently that this suggestion has been made by dozens and dozens of people in the 10 months that I've been using the site. I believe that Luis himself has said that they'd like to do this, but as always, there are many other issues competing for scarce dev time. Given that it's not occurred yet, I'm guessing it's fairly low on their list of priorities.
Perhaps they're waiting for the UI revamp that's in the works (mentioned in the recent app update for iOS 7 announcement on the official duolingo blog).
Good idea! The quit confirmation is available on the iPhone app, and has saved my progress many times!
This is/was recently being tested for the web-version. I recall there was a popup once warning me about clicking another link, when I tried to leave a practice session.
It happened to me too a few days ago. But shortly after that the pop-up did not saved my ass for the second time.
