New here, learning French
Hi guys, I just started learning French. I wanted to see who else is just starting out.
I took some French in high school but I can't remember most of it so I guess I am just starting from scratch.
Welcome! I just started learning French a couple months ago, so I guess you could say I'm sort of new at it. Good Luck in learning! :)
I started from scratch as well, and got very frustrated because Duolingo does not have a lot of grammar notes, so I created a blog that I filled with my study notes, from day one on through. It's in chronological order, and you may find it helpful.
If you study using a Kindle, I posted the blog's links for Kindle users in this post:
The blog has been very popular so far, so I'm working on another to help those that used the blog to test out at B2 level (within a year, can you believe that?), which starts Sept 1st.
Note: I noticed a bunch of people visited that link, so I checked the links and some of the PDF links to books are no longer working. The post was updated, and all links should work now. I do try to focus on this website listing post:
So when in doubt...go here to see what's available to you.
Thank you. I try to save others the time it takes to find material to study, like songs, children's stories, translation material, flash cards, wordlists etc.
I checked, you're right, it's been removed...just Google French Textbook PDF and you'll find several more, like The Complete Idiot's Guide to French, Michael Thomas' companion book for his audio course, and many others. UT Austin has their textbook available as seperate chapters: http://www.laits.utexas.edu/fi/sites/laits.utexas.edu.fi/files/chapter-01.pdf
Hey! How are you? I started two days ago! Let's share our experiences here!
Hello, nice to meet you! :) I'm new to French (and to Duo) as well, I've been learning it by myself like 2 or 3 years ago, but it's not the same having it at school and having other stuff to do in life. So yeah, we're both new here, let's motivate ourselves! :)
Even I had taken French in high school and didn't remember most of it. I restarted from scratch. It's been two months of French learning now, and I am doing good. Just a note: don't give up on it. Challenge yourself to a 50 day streak or something. :)
Hi! I'm just starting too. Did not take French in HS, only Spanish. I think persistence is the key, keep going and don't quit! We can do this!!! :D
Welcome to duolingo then, I'm not doing French until I'm fluent in Spanish first, but even still good luck, duoling is awesome and pretty straightforward and you'll be speaking French in no time!
Welcome to Duolingo! I'm learning French too. I take three years of classes at school and next will be my fourth year. Good luck!
Hi, Tiffany. you are welcome. I just started learning this month. All the best :)
I'm in the same boat as you, with some tiny highschool remnants and an almost fresh start. like I know just enough to not completely butcher the easy words lol
Hi there! Bienvenue! Started last week.
Would love to know if anyone else is having some difficulty remembering how conjugations work? And oh gosh, questions. What has helped you get through this hurdle? :)
lol yea i am also having trouble with this, i will most likely have to give up and look it up online
I just started for six days now. I also took French earlier during in my first and second semester in college. That was 4 years ago, and at the time I took French on DL, I only knew Bonjour and Merci.
