Hello to all finno-urgic language fans, today i have started finding people who would be ready to make course in Livonian language. I can't promise anything, but at least the process is on its way.

I think it would be great to get this language back on its feet, as a latvian i would be just happy if Livonian got official language status in Latvia and there would be more speakers of it.

Really? Liivi definitely got at least a passing mention when we were taught about Finno-Ugric languages.

It's been a while since I've attended school... :-)

(And our Finnish-as-the-other-national-but-still-native-level classes were sometimes rather inventive. There was one teacher I remember sitting up on a cupboard just below the ceiling of the classroom, reading aloud to us. Another teacher had us do presentations on various topics, and counted how many "niinku" and "tota" each speaker uttered during their presentation. We also did learn some things, but mostly just used the language.)

This is awesome! Thank you for sharing. I am very interested in the finno-ugric language family. I'm also interested in Latvian. Did you apply to contribute to a course?

Great! I think once a few more courses graduate there'll be many exciting new additions to the incubator! In the meantime I'm staying busy with the many languages already available :)

Oh wow, quite honestly I didn't even know there has been an ongoing debate about making Livonian an official language (has there?). And I'm Latvian.. That said, I definitely think it's an interesting idea and I would love to learn it.

Tieši nodomāju, ka līvu valodas duolingo kurss varētu būt pagrieziena punkts valodas vēsturē un būtu ļoti labi, ja tāds tiktu radīts, kamēr vēl ir cilvēki, kuri valodu zin vismaz kā otro valodu! Pats piedalīties nevaru, jo valodu nezinu, taču labprāt apgūtu pamatus, ja šāds kurss eksistētu. Manuprāt katrā latvietī ir kāda daļa līvu asiņu. Esi mēģinājis sazināties ar līvu kultūras lietu bīdītājiem? Piemēram Valtu Ernštreitu?

Short excerpt in English: Expressing a full support and suggesting someone who should be contacted regarding this.

Here's a book that goes over the grammar of five Finnic languages ( and to an extent, six ), and Livonian is included. Unfortunately, it's quite expensive if anyone is interested in purchasing it.
