Pronunciation of "usa" (verb, he/she/it uses) as if U.S.A.

Has anyone else noticed that the voice on the Italian for English speakers pronounces the 3rd person singular present verb "usa" (he/she/it uses) as if it's U.S.A.? Instead of saying (roughly) "oosa," it says (again, roughly) "ooh. essay. ah."

That's how you know it's a computer and not a real human being. It reminds me of the way the GPS voice in my car mispronounces place names and reads abbreviations.

Cracks me up every time, but I'm sure it confuses a lot of people. Perhaps this should be fixed?

Contributors are already aware about this problem, which is why we always disable the exercises where the users need to recognize the sentence from the audio for Italian sentences with the word "usa". Unfortunately, nothing can be done in the translation exercises, where the sentence is anyway read by the automated voice, and adding a topic in the Troubleshooting section won't solve anything.

On a related note, just to make you aware about it... in Italian, the "U.S.A." (United States of America) are anyway pronounced as the word "usa". Even if it's an acronym, they are never pronounced "U ESSE A".

Grazie! That's all good to know!

So, it really is a case of the computer reading it the way my GPS reads things like RTE ("arr. tee. ee.") instead of saying "route"!

Ask moderators and contributors of Italian/English course to disable audio for every time they hear "usa" as "U.S.A.". We have the same problem in Italian/French course and we disable audio every time we hear false pronunciation. :)

I posted this in the Italian forum -- is that not how to bring things to the attention of contributors and moderators? (Most of the time this happens, I'm on my phone app, where there isn't a "report" option for the sentence itself.)

You should put this in the "Trouble Shooting" forum. They'll be able to help much more over there. :)

Thanks, that's helpful!

Of course, it also amuses me. Maybe I don't want it to go away! :)

:) Seriously, though, I posted about this in Troubleshooting, as you suggested. I'm sure it confuses and doesn't amuse some people!

Haha! It kind of confused me at first and it took me a while to understand your doubt... XD But then I was like, "Ooooohhh..." XD It's okay. They'll help you over there. :D

I think the old voice used to do that too.
