I have a completely gold tree in Spanish, and am very confident in my Spanish skills, having lived in a Spanish-speaking country and practiced on DuoLingo every day, yet I have been on stuck on 53% 'fluent' FOREVER. it doesn't seem to budge no matter what. I am 58% fluent on my French tree, even though I'm only half done with it and my Spanish skills are far superior to my French. how is fluency worked out and how do you improve it?

(I know the fluency percentage is not really an accurate estimation of your skills but it bugs me when I'm always practicing my Spanish and maintaining its gold but it doesn't move!!)

thanks :)

The sooner you stop looking at that fluency percentage, that happier you'll be. I don't think anyone here understands the complete algorithm behind how it comes up with that number.

I agree, it is kind of an experiment so far and seems to get stuck not only in Spanish. Enjoy the other items and forget about it.

I don't think anyone has seen an explanation of how fluency is calculated. I'm sure there's an algorithm, but we don't know what it is. The only thing we can tell you is not to worry about it.
