DL finora non accetta "gas". L'ho segnalato... per par condicio con coloro che non hanno auto a benzina ma a gas naturale (metano), :-)) Cfr. http://www.wordreference.com/iten/metano

Petrol e' l'abbreviazione per petroleum.

(In inglese, perche' non so parlare italiano bene...)

Gasoline/ Petroleum/ Ethanol/ Propane are all fuels for a vehicle. They are dispensed in liquid form, at a gas station.
Natural gas is supplied in liquid form to many North American houses and businesses (through underground pipes), and it is burned in a furnace to create heat, or in the kitchen to cook.
It is less expensive to use than electricity, for heating. In fact, many large scale electric producers burn natural gas to eventually create electricity.

Benzina is closest to the word "benzene" in English, which is a liquid chemical, but benzene is not a widely-used or a well-known term. Gasoline probably contains benzene, if I were guessing.

Air/ Neon/ Steam, etc. are all gases. Used in a chemical sense/ state.
Also called "vapor" when referring to water (steam).
