Motivational aid: here are 5 lingots. If you make the 20, keep them; if you do not make the 20 give me 10 lingot back (or give them to the people that made it to 20)! Ok?

I would suggest investing the 5 lingots on a Double or nothing wager. It's quite helpful in building a streak, 7 days at a time.

Thanks! Will do! :)

I wish you luck I am on a 22 day streak I have not stopped since the first day I added the app. But now I am really struggling with the lessons any pointers?

https://www.duolingo.com/BellaAlanna

Awesome job! I just got the app too but I lost my streak on Saturday and Sunday because it was the weekend. Lol!

All I can say is to keep on working hard and persevere!

STORY: It's like you're running a 5 mile race and the prize is 1 Million dollar's and you're only two steps away from the finish line but everyone else is only half way done and you decide to take a break because you think they'll never catch up. But they keep working hard and stay running! Next thing you know you lost that race and that 1 million dollars! So now you're jacked up and ticked off that you lost the race and you have no one to blame but yourself. Then...you have to wait till next year and start all over again!

MORAL OF MY WEIRD STORY: Never stop running because there's always a prize at the end. But if you stop then you'll just have to learn the language that you stopped learning all over again. At the end of this race you will have learned 1 whole language! Can you imagine how proud you will feel once you have finished the race and came in first? That's the prize for this race that you and everyone else on this website is running.

Keep up the good work and if you do feel like you need a break just buy the streak freeze! It'll save your streak for 1 whole day! Here's a lingot! Hope this helps! :)

Thank you so much for your inspiration. You are right I am a single mother with three daughters and dreams of being a paralegal. Life and the the things we learn are never easy but that's what makes it fun :). Good luck with your goals

No problem! I am a strong saved Christian so I just trust in my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ everyday and pray that he'll provide me the strength and perseverance that I need to fulfill my dreams and do well in school. Because I now that in the long run after I'm done with school, all the hard work will pay off in the end. Even though you may not be a Christian like me God Bless. And Lord bless you with your dreams of becoming a paralegal. :)

"I am fearfully and wonderfully made;marvelous are you works..." Psalm 139:14

"The Lord is my strength and my shield." Psalm 28:7

"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." Proverbs 31:30

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Psalm 34:18

"With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgement. Always let him lead you, and he will clear the road for you to follow." Proverbs 3:5-6

"And we know that all thing work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28

If you're struggling slow down a bit. Go back to the material that you are comfortable with and only slowly add the new lessons. You will continue to earn extra points and maintain your streak even if you don't do all new material each day. IIRC you are at about the point that I was when I started finding skills that had to be reinforced to keep the "tree" current. Good luck!

Thank you I think I may have to I have retained any new information in about three days and I am on insane mode now just feel like I am failing at this maybe I am too eager to learn and my brain is unable to keep up

Just keep at it and don't worry about mistakes. Eventually you will slowly see the things you struggle with become easy. I would not worry about trying to memorize accents immediately (Except for words like He versus The in Spanish). With enough repetition you will begin to remember them on your own. It is truly amazing when the skills and words you struggled with become second nature.

Make sure you log on via the website to see the grammar tips on occasion instead of just using the app. Especially for the conjugation of verbs. Even there don't try to memorize a grammar table right away.

Frequently look at the comments for the questions. They will have great explanations at times that will help explain a nuance you were not getting or someone will share a way to remember the difference between to similar words.

Get a friend to study as well and when you both get to about past tense in the tree you will find you can start having instant message conversations in the language you are learning. It is a great feeling when you can compose a real word sentence for the first time. Mine was "Nosotros vamos que el banco." You may still need Google translate to help with vocabulary but it amazing how much you will have already been exposed to.

Make sure you work on pronunciation to make sure you do not miss vowel (or consonant) sounds. I demonstrated that concept for my kids by saying a sentence in English that had a dropped vowel sound in a word. Instead of "Table" I pronounced it "Tble". Once you start thinking of it that way you understand why the first time you try to speak to a native speaker they may not understand what you are saying.

Finally, When you do eventually lose your streak don't get discouraged. Start a new streak and try to break your own record.

Good luck.

Thank you I am feeling very discouraged at the moment living in Florida I have met many people who are bilingual. They make it seem like no big deal but this is the hardest thing I have ever done I refuse to quit because I think learning Spanish language will give me an edge being a Florida resident. Thank you for the inspiration hopefully I can find someone to I'm with soon

Hello BellaAlanna, I wish you the best of luck with your streak. I reached 37 days when DL "forgot" a day and I had to start again. Instead of trying for a long streak, concentrate on the learning and retaining the knowledge. I always start every day at the top of the tree and re-do any lessons that have changed back to Blue/green. I aim to do three lessons per day. In 18 months I have reached level 16. I can read and understand a Spanish newspaper but I cannot recall words fast enough to be able to carry on a conversation, my brain is getting old (74) but I will keep going. I live in Spain so that does help.

Hello Emochick5, Just as everyone learns in French; "La plume de ma tante", I found the equivalent in Spanish early in the lessons; "El elefante grande rosa no es mio!" I have reached day 17 -only 13 more lessons to the end of the tree ! 2nd/9/15
