Tips and Tricks?

Hey guys, i'm fairly new to Duolingo and the German language, Ive been going strong for about a week now and am really liking it. This year i will be a first year university student, and i am hoping that in my third year i will do a year abroad to Germany. I was just wondering, since i am new if you guys could provide some tips and tricks for learning German, or any language in general.

I know practice everyday is a must, but I'm looking for something a little deeper beyond the conventional wisdom here. Something that YOU do.

Thanks guys :)

take the time to read the grammar help and also look for other German grammar sources. There are many German learners here who can suggest you good sites. Ask questions. Think of little aims you want to reach. Understanding the 4 grammatical cases is definitive not a task for 4 weeks!

Get familiar with the capitalized nouns and capitalize them, please. Natives will thank you.

I found once a nice site for German beginners. http://www.ukgermanconnection.org/kids-hans-bohnenranke The fairythales are in present that is a bit confusing but it is better for beginners.

PS: Learn the word's gender by heart right now. Try to form groups. The animal lesson is good to start forming groups.

I would suggest trying Michel Thomas' method to learn German, it will give you a solid foundation to build your knowledge of German in a short amount of time.
