I don't recall seeing this anywhere else (stötter), so is this literal support, figurative or both? As in, holding someone up, or supporting their position in a debate (or both).
It can be either literal, figurative or economical.
I'm guessing then that you could use 'Støtter' as in I support Tottenham Hotspur (football team).
A person who is supporting their local football team is actually called a "fotballsupporter".
