Nine and three quarters would be just perfect, in my humble opinion.

Sorry, I can't yet recall some of the words in Dutch, so: "Aber neun elefanten sind auch nicht genug.". I hope the word order is right.

Two. If you only have one then elephants will become extinct. They can procreate with two! ;)

I believe you have failed your English teacher.

Example:

S1: "How many elephants are too many? I don't think you can have too many elephants."

S2: "Ten elephants, /that/ is too many."*

S1: -hesitates- "Good point."

You're right! (Sie haben recht!) These sentences would be better served to have colons rather than commas, or just write them as a sentence fragment and a sentence; or better yet, leave out 'that' entirely, along with any internal punctuation.

Nine elephants: that is not enough. Ten elephants: that is too many. Nine elephants. That is not enough. Ten elephants. That is too many. Nine elephants is not enough. Ten elephants is too many.

I agree with the person above. Nine and a half or nine and three quarters seems to be an adequate number of elephants.
