Hey Duolingots, A couple of days ago I expressed you my doubts about learning either Danish or Norwegian first.I'm planning to learn both ,but I decided to learn Danish first. Here are some reasons why I want to to take up Danish Language 1)Denmark itshelf is a country with a high quality of life and provides people with a lot of health and educiation supplies and working opportunities. So,If you consider relocating to another country,Denmark is the ideal place for you! 2)Denmark is one of the most attractive countries in the world with picturesque villages and a great nature! 3)Danish is spoken in some of the most beautiful parts of our planet.Danish is spoken by 6 million people worldwide and has an official status in Denmark,in the Greenlandic schools and also in the Faroe Islands-a cluster of autonumous islands belonging to Denmark inhabited by 60.000 people.Check them out! They're are trully charming.Icelanders can also speak some Danish is taught as a second foreign language in the Icelandic schools! 4)Danish pronunciation has a weird and uncommon sound for the foreigners and in my humble opinion,it is not as difficult as a lot of people consider so it is a great challenge to get to know it!! 5)Danish language has so much similarities with the Norwegian and the Swedish language, that they are mutually intelligible and therefore it won't be difficult for you to learn the other 2 languages too! 6)Danish is a language with a lot of similarities to English and so you'll find its grammar and vocabulary relatively easy. 7)Read books in the original language from one of the most notable and worth-mentioning authors and contributors to the worldliterature:Hans Christian Andersen! Another worth-mentioning fact:Studies say that Danes are among the happiest people in the world :D So what are you waiting for?Start learning Danish guys! :)))

I have decided to learn Danish on Duolingo once, but I have to admit that Danish has a difficult pronounciation for a brazilian like me. I wish some day I can learn it, success on your studies!

Excuse me but can you tell me why Danish rather than Norway. Because studies showed that with Norway you have better understanding of the three. The pronunciation is amazingly different which made it very hard to switch to understanding of Norwegian or Swedish. Danish is claimed to be the worst to start with for the mutual intelligibility.

I also reconsidered to start with Danish but the pronunciation is just that difficult. It's enough to start with 1st level on the tree to get confused by the pronunciation.

I just recommended 7 reasons to learn Danish.I will also learn Norwegian but this is just your opinion about Danish. And yes, there are a lot of people interested in Danish language and culture so why not learning Danish? The difficulty of the pronunciation is just a perception that exist in our minds.Everyone can succeed in Danish. It is not that difficult, you only need to practise, just like all the languages in the world.Pronunciation is its most difficult part I agree, but I hate seeing people avoiding learning Danish just for "its hard pronunciation".

I wasn't saying that we need to avoid Danish, but recommending not to start with Danish when it comes to Scandinavian languages. I prefer Danish sound the most but we'd better start with Norwegian.
