Soaps/Movies in Turkish with subtitles???

Does anyone have any suggestions for good Turkish movies or soap operas, but they come with subtitles? I don't even know where to start, but I did see that "Kuzey Güney" seems to be popular. However I couldn't find anything with subtitles.

I've really never watched TV in another language, so I don't know if I need to watch turkish TV with turkish subtitles to learn how things are pronounced (plus I can read better than hear), or watch it in english to understand what is going on and learn from context clues. Is it even possible to have both turkish and english subtitles at the same time?

Thanks in advanced! :)

I can recommend some directors so you can find lists of movies of them using wikipedia or imdb.

Çağan Irmak

Nuri Bilge Ceylam

Ömer Faruk Sorak

Ertem Eğilmez (oldies but goldies :P)

Well, for now just four of them have crossed my mind. Maybe me or somebody else will add more later. İyi seyirler! :)

I recommend Muhteşem Yüzyıl Kösem (a popular soap). You can get the English subtitles here:

Hello,I would recommend you some TV series but I don't know if they have subtitles. However,if you decide to watch series without subtitles, they can be useful. ''Güneşin kızları'' ; ''Kalbim Ege'de kaldı'' ; ''Ulan İstanbul'' (the TV series are done but indeed, this series are one of my favourites!) ; ''Adı Mutluluk'' ; ''Kiralık aşk'' ; ''İnadına aşk'' ; ''Merhamet'' (again, the TV series are done but you definitely should give them a try) ; ''Aşk yeniden'' (second season running in September) ; ''Acil aşk aranıyor'' ; ''Galip Derviş'' (remake of ''Monk'') ; ''İntikam'' (remake of ''Revenge'') .

There are more but right now I can think of these. :-) I hope it helps. P.S. I hope I hadn't mistaken any titles. Second P.S. I have trouble with posting things on a new row ,so sorry.

You should watch, "Aşk-ı Memnu" , "Intikam" , "Muhteşem Yüzyıl" They are the best in TR. You can also search "Beren Saat" who is an actress, her films are nice.

As they are so difficult to find is there any chance of making a sticky about Turkish TV and movies with TURKISH subtitles?

  • 1413 has turkish subtitles for 165.897 films and episodes. Mostly for American films and shows, however.

Thanks. When I use "advanced search" and specify both language "Turkish" and movie language "turkish" there are 1128 results. However some may only have a little Turkish amongst other languages. Also I am not sure of the quality of this list as there are some obvious mistakes e.g. for "Taken 2" it says AKA:Takip: Istanbul (tur), L'enlèvement 2 (eng), Taken 2 (eng) so someone has written "eng" instead of "fra". Still I shall give it a try some time.

I am really curious about the series called "20 dakika" but unfortunately I can't find it with the English subtitles. If anybody heard about such a version, please tell me :)

Actually, I think you should watch it with English subtitles at first. Because watching without understanding anything is so tedious that you will get bored soon. If you think you understand at least half of it, only then you should start watching it with Turkish subtitles. Many video players have the option that you can use two subtitles(one at the bottom, one at the top) at the same time. But you may be overhelmed by it easily, but it does not hurt much to try. By the way, I recommend watching Vali(2009). Normally, I don't like Turkish TV series and films, because, quite often than not, there is never anything original and they lack even the mediocre quality. Still, here and there, you may find good ones.
