Will the language "Tamil" be added to the Incubator?
Tamil is an Indian language. It is ancient and one of the oldest languages in this world with a rich literary background. it would be great to see people learn Tamil on Duolingo! :)
Some friends of me speak Tamil. I'd love to learn some so that I can talk to them in their mother tongue :D
Dear all, It seems that the Hindi module for Duolingo is going to be released soon, and we can see in the incubator some other interesting non-European languages, among them Swahili and Vietnamese. Maybe we should give second thought to the possibility of creating a Tamil module? I myself would not be able to contribute much to such a course beyond help with sketching a tree and assembling a list of basic vocabulary - but here I do have quite some experience in learning Tamil as a non-native speaker. If there are fellow Duolingo enthusiasts knowing Tamil as their first language, for the possibility of creating such a module to be considered you would need to send a proposal to Duolingo team here: https://incubator.duolingo.com/apply You can see that there is no option of choosing "Tamil" yet, and it has to be entered manually under the field "other". It would be really great if we could give it a start!
Yeah Tamil is a beautiful language but it I have found it difficult to learn properly. I would also be ready to learn it should it come to Duolingo
Yes please! My dad's native language is Tamil, but I only know a few words and phrases, and I've hardly any grasp on the grammar. I would love for there to be a course on Tamil!
if billingual speakers apply to do that language on the incubator they will add it, apparently they are adding languages based on demand.
I am native Tamil speaker too... I love this forum and tool and will support definitely the Tamil to English or the other way around... Since hindi is in process, like to take the script learning methods from there to leverage in this...
Adding my vote for Tamil. I'm travelling to Tamil Nadu in summer 2017 and would love to improve my knowledge of the language before I go!
Tamil would be great to learn! Spoken in many parts of the world and a beautiful, ancient language.
I support this 100%. Tamil is a very important language, with millions of speakers. In India (where it is the main language of Tamil Nadu) it is a very useful language to learn, and the common language for most of the Indian learners would be English.
I NEED to learn Tamil! I'm currently 6 months pregnant with the child of a wonderful Tamil man and I hate that I won't be able to help teach this child the language of his family! Please add this language soon!
PLEASE add Tamil. It's very hard to find good resources for Tamil and it's one of the oldest and beautiful languages on Earth.
I'm from Singapore and given that Tamil is one of our official languages, it would be nice to be able to learn it from a Duolingo course.
I am a native speaker of Tamil. I would certainly be delighted if a lot more people speak it. It is unfortunate that to date we don't quite have (at least from what I've seen) a good online course for learning Tamil. So, if Duolingo were to start one, it would be a welcoming development, indeed.
I would love to learn Tamil. I've heard there is a lot of poetry, that date back centuries.
I would be happy to contribute to a Tamil for English speakers course. It would be great to add Tamil to Duolingo!
I have applied to contribute to English to Tamil in the incubator. I am sure many others have as well. As Hindi is close to completion, they may add another Indian language soon, so let's be patient! Looking forward to seeing more languages pop up on Duolingo.
Tamil is an official language of India, Sri Lanka and Singapore, as well as being spoken in several other countries. I would love to see it added to DuoLingo.
I'm ready to contribute to the Tamil for English speakers course if they introduce it as I am fluent in both the languages.I'm very happy to see that so many of you are eager to add this course.
Please do - I speak Tamil (as my mother tongue) but I am nowhere near fluency, so I would love to learn it.
Tamil please, I am a Tamilian who knows very little, but would like to know the real language.
Surely I want to see Tamizh in Duolingo. There are many waiting out there to contribute for this course.
Tamil needs to be as lots of people want to learn the language which pleases me
Yes, please! It is my mother tongue, but I only know the spoken language, that too we speak it with a lot of sanskrit influence at home. I would really love to read and write in it as well as learn the proper, formal form of the language.
I see Tamil in incubation Phase1 with one contributor Rohan Shankar and good news is today is the estimated date for Phase1 readiness. I have applied for incubation support. Hope to see Tamil shortly.
I've put in a request to work on the Tamil for English Speakers course. I think that if more people apply, the demand will go up and Duolingo will create a course. So, any speakers of both languages, please try to apply.
I was born in australia and my whole family speaks Tamil. I'd love to learn it!
I am also a tamilian and would love to contribute to this course. Naan Tamilan Da !!!
I'm also from Tamilnadu. I would be extremely happy if Tamil language is added in duolingo. And I'm willing to contribute too..
Willing to contribute if somone starts it. Did tamil for 10 years till high school
i have sent a request too.. glad to c so many of you interested in my mother tongue..
Tamil for English speakers really interesting I am voting for this for a long time
As a language enthusiast, I'd love to have Tamil on Duolingo. Considering how widely its speakers have spread across the globe, it is worth learning.
As a person currently learning how to write in Tamil, and already fluently able to speak, I think Duolingo adding Tamil could help me greatly. Hoping to see it added soon! I can't contribute since I can only speak and not read or write, but I'll be looking forward to it!
tamil is a beautiful sounding language and ive heard some super awesome things about the grammar!
Anything to end Hindi imperialism. Also, what with the amount of literature and culture in the language, it’s been pretty high on the list of languages I’d like to learn for a while now.
I give a lingot to my language. Hindi has taken over Indian language to much. Tamil can help with a lot of things.
I too would be glad to contribute to the module if one is incubated for Tamil. My native language is Tamil, I am born and brought up in Tamil Nadu, India and I am familiar with the colloquial and written styles of Tamil. Eagerly waiting..
Any inputs from Duolingo on this. We have a bunch of volunteers ready to go..
Very Interested in Learning Tamil!! Duolingo is the best application for learning languages period. I am looking foreword to them adding it to the list of languages, hopefully in the nearer future!
I love Tamil and would welcome this even before a Sanskrit course on Duolingo.
I just learned of this research documentary series about the "Evolution of Tamil Writing Script". 8 Episodes of Historical evidences releasing in Early 2019.
