Duolingo is the most popular way to learn languages in the world. Best of all, it's 100% free!

Duolingo is very good at realizing when you are making a spelling mistake, and not taking hearts away.

This may seem like a small thing but it is really helpful. they realize that you know the word but not the spelling, so they do not take a heart away, but they inform you of your spelling mistake so that you do not make the mistake again. Duolingo, this is one of the many amazing things you do.

One of my biggest problems is accidentally typing an 's' on English verbs when I'm translating. Duo doesn't read this as a type, rather as a mis-conjugation. It's sometimes so frustrating that English verbs have only two ways to conjugate in the present tense! :)

I wish this applied to me. I lose hearts more often than not. Though, I realize that it is a lot of work for DL staff, who make something like 15 alternative sentences for each sentence we translate (?), to try and differentiate between typos and the errors they don't want to slip by.

It is more like 500 to 1000 sentences for each example! At least at higher levels (like where you are at right now). That is pretty impressive, eh? I think Luis said that somewhere!

Hehe, yes, I thought it must be a very large number, because sometimes I have a noticeable wait when net conditions are otherwise not laggy. That's when I think I must have scraped in as the very last sentence to be checked on the list!

I was tracking down this comment (I think) and now I'm sad to see it deleted. I wish discussion topics didn't leave with the user.

I lost a heart for typing "Beine" instead of "Biene". I've been peeking at words more than ever because of this, but my spelling is hardly improving (my motivation keeps getting lower).

I agree! Especially when you are using this site on an iPad and everything is being autocorrected!
