Duolingo is the most popular way to learn languages in the world. Best of all, it's 100% free!

I keep checking the incubator page to see if anything changes, but nothing.

Here is my idea, if you volunteered to be a moderator, write the language combination in the comment section. For example: German from English.

Try not to repeat the entries to eliminate clutter.

I am really curious to know what languages are coming.

Hi yonoleo! We got thousands of applications to participate in the moderator program. English from Japanese, English from Polish, English from Russian, and English from Mandarin have already started! We have also been internally testing some language directions and more mods are set to be invited for other languages this week.

Is Duolingo giving priority to English from X, or can we expect X from English soon? I know we will get there eventually. I am just wondering if the priority now is to get people to learn English.

They are only working on English from X courses now. It's not that it's a "priority to get people to learn English", it's that these courses can easily be created from the Duolingo template. Things will be more complicated when they have to figure out how to teach English speakers Russian grammar, for example. They have said that those courses are coming by the end of the year.

I too am very curious to see how things are coming! I see that English for German speakers is almost ready for beta testing -- How exciting! It'd be kinda fun to get mirco-updates on these to pacify some of the impatience :D

They're adding more people soon, but actually, if you look very closely, things are updating as the contributors work on languages. Here actually is a log I'm keeping on the percentage complete of the RussianEnglish and ChineseEnglish courses (because those are the ones I'm interested in for various reasons). (Mind, I'm living in China, so these times are actually 12 hours ahead of US Eastern time.)

Date/Time Russian Chinese

10/24 23:55 .71721 1.3831
10/25 13:08 2.1516 2.5614
10/25 22:08 2.2086 2.7151
10/26 04:36 3.1762 2.7151
10/26 21:44 3.7909 4.0471
10/27 08:44 4.8155 4.3545
10/27 22:09 5.0717 4.9180
10/28 14:29 9.1700 5.5327
10/29 00:45 9.9897 "
10/29 14:18 13.217 6.9159
10/30 12:55 13.726 5.4663*
10/31 12:53 16.439 6.1546

*I have no idea why the Chinese course lost progress that day.

The other courses are slowly gaining progress, but it seems Russian is moving along the most quickly.

EDIT: I have no idea why the formatting in my post has gone crazy, but it shows Russian and Chinese steadily increasing. Can I use html to fix it?

press double "enter" to go to next paragraph.
'double space' (at the end of a line) then enter to do a line break (without creating new paragraph)

16% in a week is not bad at all for English from Russian. I imagine the English from Chinese presents more challenges, but 5% in a week is also pretty good.
