Correct pronunciation of "kvinne?"
I've been pronouncing 'kvinne' as 'k vinn eh' (minus the gaps), however it sounds to me like the automated voice pronounces 'kvinne' as 'quinn eh,' unless I'm hearing it wrong?
Is the 'v' silent and is the 'k' pronounced more like a 'q,' or am I wrong?
I have googled this question and have found varying different answers, so I'm still confused. I'd appreciate any help, thanks. :D
Yes, words starting with "kv-" and "kn-" can be tricky for people with English as their mother tongue. There's a reason why the "k" in "knife" and "knee" are silent and why "Knut" has become "Canute".
Etymologically, "queen" and "kvinne" stem from the same Proto-Indo-European word meaning "wife". You can still find it in that sense in the word "kone" in Norwegian.
Copy and paste this to google translate English . And listen it :D
The first one is right. It's "kvin-nuh."
