Duolingo based on multiple languages

I speak several languages, and currently learning Spanish and Italian on duolingo. I am not sure if it is possible to keep a more advanced Home screen for easy access/switching between multiple base languages. Example:

  • Learn Spanish from English

  • Learn Spanish from French

  • Learn Italian from Spanish

  • Subscription Norwegian from English (but I am not learning Norwegian, I'm fluent as native)

It is possible to switch the base language, but day streak status, xp points, mostly are mixed up. The switching process is some what difficult, and does not give an overview. When I am switching to French as base, I lost the subscription of English as base, and so on.

The idea of having multiple base languages is repeat the same lessons in different view/base languages, like a reverse tree as many referred. As I am not learning Norwegian (from English), but I can contribute to the Norwegian learners, by monitoring the threads and giving answers.

Modifying the Home screen to support multiple base languages should give Duolingo a face lift, benefit to people who can more than 2 languages, which I believe that this group is increasing rapidly.

I post this as a troubleshooting thread, but feel free to relocate.

Check out the "Language Course Switcher (Improved)" userscript which is perhaps what you are looking for.

Also you can save this screen which has all the base languages and courses together to switch to: https://www.duolingo.com/courses/all

I prefer to save each individual course from each base :

https://www.duolingo.com/course/es/en/Learn-Spanish-Online'

https://www.duolingo.com/course/es/fr/Learn-Spanish-Online

https://www.duolingo.com/course/it/es/Learn-Italian-Online

https://www.duolingo.com/course/no-BO/en/Learn-Norwegian-(Bokmål)-Online

Your day streak is for practicing any of your languages. Each base language shows the xp and status for its own courses only. The information for other base languages is not gone, but accessible after you switch to that other base language.

Thank you. Yes it is very useful. I would like to save these individual url on my profile for easy access (from multiple pc). Is it possible to include an URL on duolingo profile?

You can click on the Change language option (flag button towards the left of the page) and go to https://www.duolingo.com/settings/direction. From the drop down you can select any language pair.

I can switch base language and any course. It's just not given me a dashboard for those I want.

I tried saving them on my bio. but only two fit and they become words only and do not work to switch. I save them in my favorites on my pc and bookmark them on the phone. I can send it to your name and it will appear on your profile page, but it will start out at the top of the screen and later you will have to scroll down to find it. Only so much fit, so scroll down I put the last two separately. You can also save this page to your favorites as well.

Thank you. I tried to save into the profile too, but not good. It would be nice if we can modify our Home page and create some url short cut to these courses. I use several pc, depends on where I am working, but mostly 'duolingoing' on iOs. Buildt-in functionality would be best. As you may see, switching base language also mixed up my levels in each language, only day streak is correct.

Can't the developers of Duolingo just make this into a thing? Its not that far fetched. Seeing all the different courses you follow when you click on the flag-learning-thingie by your profile

After a few weeks switching back/forward, I started to be familiar. There are many steps to switch but it is not so bad. But yes, it would be a nice feature on the profile or Home screen.

I am suffering the same problem. I don't understand why you loose your profile each time you change the base language ? I am currently learning Italian from English as it didn't exist yet from French when I started and now DL splitted me into 2 different profiles. Isn't that crazy ?
