More courses anyone?

I think we should ask the people here at duolingo to ask hoever does the languages to include languages such as Chinese or Japenses, in due time, of course. I know some languages branch out to dialects but to know the basics of the "official" or the "most spoken" languages.

Of course I know that some languages are images or hieroglyphs and that people need to write them and that it will not be easy...

Just an idea of course

These are coming. English for Chinese speakers is already available in Beta form. There was a need for French and Spanish for Chinese and these are currently being worked on now. The reverse courses will come eventually, but first the English for Chinese must be finished and ready to graduate from Beta.

English for Japanese speakers is also currently available in Beta form. The reverse course cannot be made until this course has been finished.

Vietnamese for English speakers is currently in phase 1 as well as Hindi for English speakers. Continue to check the incubator for new updates.

I think the reason why there haven't been any new announcements about courses is because there are too much in Phase 1. A few of them have to graduate before any new ones can get added. Even though Chinese and Japanese have the highest demand (Finnish too), the writing systems are too complicated to support at this time. Duolingo need to improve a few things before these courses can ever be made. The current system isn't exactly suited to the writing systems of Chinese and Japanese.

At this rate it'll take ages before we see any english-chinese courses. I wish someone would advertise more like I don't know put more ads up or something like that. I get the feeling that not enough people know about it and if we are to see a course we will need more participants...

don't worry, it's definitely on the radar of Duolingo staff. They are working on many fronts with a small number of people, so some things will take time.
