In English (besides the use of the passive voice) I see nothing wrong with the translation "In the room was a table"

Maybe it's the absence if 'existential there' before the verb.

Given that the first translation of "stond" is "was", "In the room was a table" should be accepted.

Would this sentence also be correct? "Er stond een tafel in de kamer", since the English translation says that "There was a table in the room"
