[Suggestion]: Sending short audio clips to friends/followers using stream/discussion (for practicing/pronunciation advice/etc)

I think people have asked for Instant Messaging features for quite some time.

So I propose that sending short audio clips would be a useful middle ground. The message would be sent in a similar way as sending a text message to a person's stream. The receiver could have the option to play/ ignore/delete or disable the feature in the settings.

This could also serve as an excellent way for natives to pronounce words, and help learners, since the Text-to-Speech engine sometimes fails or doesn't pronounce correctly.

In addition, it could serve as a method for a simple practice, pronunciation advice, and so on. I know storage may be a problem, but rather than keeping the message forever, it would have an expiry date. If the users don't open their inbox then the message is deleted automatically after some time, or alternatively it can be sent to his/her email, and deleted thereafter.

This could be useful in the discussion section for fluent speakers to show users how to pronounce. These messages could also auto-delete after some time.

Summary:

  • Add an option for users to send short audio clip to each other using the stream;
  • Add an option for users to add a short audio clip for discussion section;
  • Optionally set an expiry date on each audio clip; and
  • Optionally forward the message to email.

Hi Dessamator,
Your message was a year ago and no-one commented! Do you know if anything happened? Is there a way of doing this that we can use? I see that we can include pictures; is there an equivalent way for a sound clip?

No. It is still not possible to embed a clip here.

Thank you Dessamator. That's a shame. When there are so many messages here trying to explain pronunciation only using text, it would have been particularly useful.
