Vote on which Duolingo shirt we should print! :)
We're making shirts with some of the funny phrases on Duolingo, including one from every language we offer!
For Spanish, you get to choose. Which of these three phrases should we print? Let us know in the comments. :)
I think it is because a ridiculous and rather common sentence in the Spanish course ;-) I also vote for the penguin although I'm not a tall a Linux fan.
3! cause that's my username!!!! yesssssss 3!!!
awww rata y raton, I'm sorry!!!! but you can be honorary penguins for now:D
your username is actually penguino which is something in between pinguino and penguin ;)
I don't care. It's still a penguin in the end!! :)
And yes, this is an instance where DuoLingo could really use polling capability.
I was thinking that they should have had moderators, or a bot to make three comments, and then have us upvote the comment with the phrase we prefer.
Some people tried doing this themselves, but it isn't really working.
yep i have to agree with the others the third..........the others are done
Number 3! It's obvious. Also, would this be in other languages besides Spainsh?
Soy un pingüino! Penguins are my absolute favorite animal - I would love having this shirt!
I understand Duolingo doesn't have a proper voting system, but this will make it hard to count. I think it makes more sense for the person who started the thread to reply 3 times to this thread each with a different option, either 1,2, or 3:
- Tu oso bebe cerveza - Your bear drinks beer
- Eres el rey del petróleo - You are the king of petroleum
- Soy un pingüino - I am a penguin
That way people can just vote for what they like and it is simpler to evaluate the votes. In any case I vote for number 2.
People can downvote comments also, so the results will probably be skewed.
With all the people voting for 3, somebody needs to balance it out. And besides, 1 is funny... since when do bears drink beer?
I didn't pick 2 because I can imagine the king of petroleum... actually, British Petroleum. Not as funny.
I'm not taking Spanish, but 3! And do we get to pick for the other languages? There's some really funny Italian ones:D
I second this. I'm taking Italian and I'd love to see some of those on a shirt. Like "tu taglia il formaggio."
I found another one! "Lui prende i miei pantaloni" I'm doing present tense verbs right now:)
Penguin. Most definitely. Although, my one regret is that it's not as elaborate as the other two, word-wise.
Me gusta mucho el número tres... Pero no está solo mi, me parece que a mucha de la gente de Duolingo le gusta tambien.
(How's my Spanish? I hope I didn't make any significant mistakes.)
PATO CONTRA TORTUGA is the best sentence on the site. You've missed a trick.
1! People will think they know what 3 means, that you are a linux user or just saying it for fun. But number one is funny but also makes people ask about it!
Good point, but #1 is associated with millions of deaths per year (including innocent lives) and #2 is associated with polluting and destroying our home planet.
Quiero uno, por favor. ... I also want a bumper sticker that says "¿Puede su estudiante estrella leer esto?" ... I'm not a native speaker, so that may need work. But in English, it would be "Can your star student read this?"
Hmmm...I like the third one, but the second one is pretty funny! I vote numero tres!!!!
I don't mind, but just promise me the Italian one won't be 'He dies sixty days before the wedding'.
Number 1 is probably the best example of language learning duolingo style.
Please tell me how you did that. I know the one asterix trick for italics, and the two asterix trick for bold. But how did you enlarge your writing?
I am so surprised that number two has not been voted up more. By far the funniest (tough I do use Linux every day of my life and love it) and most impressive.
Also the Italian phrase which translated to "even the black cow makes white milk!"
So who's with me in number 2!?!
Ahh #1 is my all time favorite! I took a screenshot on my iPad when I first saw it!
Daaah Bearzh (1) Although what I want, what I really really want is: "Llamas las llamas" = "You call the llamas."
I also feel the allure of penguins but what is with the petroleum king? Is there some secret language/game/OPEC conspiracy that I am missing? Now energía solar . . . that could have been a rey of sunshine . . .
you should do a horse one on a computer learning duolingo that would be cute
I'm bummed that "Hasta la llegada del animal blanco" isn't a choice. I'd definitely vote for that.
No.1 is my choice.
I'm torn between that and the penguin. But on balance swayed by the butch concept of a beer drinking bear.
What a coincidence just when i was going to cast my vote it starts snowing outside. I know that goofy penguin will win but I vote for 1.
I'm going to cast a single, lonely vote for #2, because it reminds me of a weird little in-joke I have, That being said, would anyone NOT wear a shirt that says "Soy un pinguino?" I don't think so!
1 or 3 are the best - I could see #2 being more of a political statement and we all know we dont want to go there...
The third, no question. It's just way too cool. I'm pretty sure whoever created these basically knew that the third would win.
Number 1. Do we get to vote for the Portuguese one too, or has "O palhaço tem aberto a prisão para os empresários" already won?
"Your bear drinks beer" is AWESOME! Reminders me of the polar bears drinking Coca Colas commercials that come out around Christmas. . .Only the beer idea is a twist!
Your bear drinks beer. Gets my vote. There have been a lot useful sentences such as: "I had died." (Spanish for Zombies); "Pants Off!" (German for Germans); "The butterfly writes a book" (Portuguese for butterflies, which was embarrassing at the time as I was struggling with this sentence and the butterfly had already written the book).
Where are the shirts for the non-Spanish languages? I want to wear "Ich schwimme in Milch" to German class at school...
