The "You have run out of hearts :-( " owl is a bit keen...

alt text

Can't he at least let me see where I've gone wrong before he sticks his big smug beak in my face?

I know you can go back to see your answer, but his sad little trumpet riff makes me jump when I'm not expecting it.

It should show you your answer, and then cut to Sir Whitwoo Failington when you click to continue.

Gold. "Sir Whitwoo Failington." I had trouble breathing from laughter.

Many people have suggested this and I've seen Luis say a few times that this is being changed. So, hopefully your wishes, which are the wishes of many others, are not far away!

I find I cannot understand what that woman is saying, e.g. She says Una for un. Sometimes I hear an entirely different consonant sound then what she's supposed to be saying. . She often sounds angry, too. I just never had this problem with other learning devices for Italian. Then I lose my hearts when I knew the correct answer.

Heh, I've been getting the sad owl a lot lately due to a blocked ear - about 50% of the time on the audio exercises I substitute similar sounding words. So many owl tears were shed that I turned the speakers off for a time!

It's just a bit too eager to see you fail, isn't it! I half expect it to yell 'I told you so.'

Turning off the sound effects is quite helpful in easing the sting of mistakes. I've enjoyed Duolingo much more since I changed my settings!

I came to the forum to say the same thing. I didn't know I can get to the answer after. If I click on the back button on my browser it takes me Home. So, yes, I would like to add to the votes for "Sir Whit" (great name btw!) to allow us to see where we have gone wrong, and then appear afterwards.

Don't use the back button, use this one:

How do you post a picture in a comment like that?

If you type:

![alt text](http://i.imgur.com/DVnPfOy.jpg "Sir Whitwoo looks a bit like Grumpy Cat")

You will get this:

Just replace the image url with the url of the image your want.

The text in quotation marks shows up when you hover your mouse over the image.

Sorry, I still don't get it. So you put an exclamation mark and the "text" ? +URL?

Exclamation mark, then the words "alt text" in square brackets, then open round bracket, image url, space, some text of your choosing in quotation marks, close round bracket.

I am often heartless, and recently half-hearted. Has there been a post about the half-hearts? Love the boohoo Whitwoo name.

I have never been half-hearted. I didn't know that was possible until I have read your post.

I just noticed the half hearts last night. I swear I went from 2 1/2 to 1 1/2 then back up to 2. I think it may take a heart, allow you to fix a mistake and give you half back? I don't really look at the hearts, I just plug along until the owl cries, so I don't know when this started. I also had to redo Basic 2 due to decay and had 4 hearts.
