Was ist eine Liegehalle?

What exactly does the word 'Liegehalle' mean?

"offene, windgeschützte Halle für Liegekuren" (Duden) - open, sheltered hall for rest cures

I think it is an "old word", no longer used today. In former days it was more often, especially for patients with lung diseases or for regeneration.

It is not a common kind of cure nowadays.

My guess is: AmmadAli encountered the word when reading Thomas Mann's "Der Zauberberg".

I came across it in a book that I am using to learn German. I googled the word and came across images of stables, open spaces and what seemed like large abandoned halls so I couldn't quite gather what it meant. I haven't learnt enough German yet to be able to read books.

Sometimes a picture tells less than three words.
