Question About Adding Immersion Articles

If I have blog posts that I have made (so I have the rights to them), can I put them up for translation?

You have to release your articles under a creative commons license / into the public domain, then you can freely upload them to Duolingo :)

If you have copy right to them, you have to pay for the translations (correct me if I´m wrong). However, if you release them to the public domain, then it would be perfectly alright.

Incorrect, you own copyright to any content you create. Besides, even if content is copyrighted the author can waive the copyright at any moment, unless they are bound by some contract or agreement.

To answer your question CannedTomatoSoup, unless you co-authored that content with someone else(which means you need permission from your co-author), or are bound by some contract, you may upload it anytime you want.

The uploading instructions state "Non-commercial [free] Translation is free for content released under a creative commons license.". Key phrase is 'creative commons license'.

Then there's the commercial upload which state "Commercial For copyrighted content. You have to apply for an account." Key phrase is 'copyrighted content'.

What I get from this is that you can upload your own content, but you have to release it under a (cc) license, as sommerlied stated.

Can we get someone who works for Duolingo to clarify this?

There are articles from wikipedia in immersion. BTW you can get them translated on Wiki, but they may not be exactly coherent at times. Can we upload them? I am unlikely to create any Spanish language articles to be translated, as I am not ready to write in Spanish. Just trying to get points and attempt translations.
