Irish Language Immersion Weekend

Just thought I would share this. The other day was my first day of Irish class in SF and some of my class mates mentioned I just missed Irish Language Immersion Weekend, (it was a couple weeks ago) they said it was great fun! I hope to see them there next year and I hope you can join us too!

There's an Irish Immersion Weekend on the East Coast (New Jersey) in November.

If anyone lives in the Kansas City area, we have a large and vibrant Irish Center. There are Irish language classes twice a week for different levels and immersion weekends several times a year.

I did some online searching for other Immersion opportunities in North America, and I found a few.

There's an Irish Language weekend this weekend (October 9-11) in Madison, Wisconsin.

Also in Wisconsin, the University of Wisconsin at Millwaukee had a Deireadh Seachtaine Gaeilge last March - you might want to follow up with them to see if they are planning a repeat.

There's a branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann in Ottowa that apparently had an Irish Language weekend at the end of September, though I couldn't find specific details about this years event.

There's also a branch of Comhaltas in Kingston, Ontario, that had an event in April this year, and appear to be planning a repeat in 2016

There will be a Deireadh Seachtaine Gaeltachta in Los Angeles or Cathair na nAingeal on April 30th-May2nd 2016

There was an Immersion weekend in Bloomington, Indiana last May. No details of anything next year, but if that's in your neck of the woods, you might want to follow up with the organizers.

And there's a branch of Conradh na Gaeilge (The Irish League) in Dallas/Fort Worth that organized Deireadh Seachtaine na Gaeilge in March 2015 - again, if you're in that part of the US, you might want to follow up with them to see if they're planning any future events.

And for those who want a little bit more than a weekend, there's a week long course in Butte, Montana in July. (Apparently, they've been doing it for a number of years, so there's a good chance that it will be available next year, but they still have this years course listed on their website.

For those of us who were surprised to see such a course in Butte, Montana, this weeks "Doc on One" radio documentary on RTÉ Radio One is The Anaconda Road Massacre, about a Labour dispute in 1920 involving one of the largest copper mines in the US, and the involvement of Irish miners in the development of Butte.

That is what I love about SF, you can find people to practice with for so many languages. Thank you for the information.
