punctuation errors - ... in German lessons
at the moment there are no really good ways for speakers ( fluent in both directions ) to report punctuation errors
why? ... reporting is only possible during an ongoing lesson
... these awesome users ... spend their time explaining things over and over again ... have not the time to make DuoLingo lessons over and over to get the sentence by accident
...here a way to help them out

sample sentence: ... "Er schläft sobald er ins Bett geht."
This sentence has a punctuation error
the right punctation is ... "Er schläft, sobald er ins Bett geht."
you can report this error making a short "practice word"-lesson ( mostly 2 questions )
you have to guess the word under which the sentence occurs
and search it under http://www.duolingo.com/vocab
here ... the word "sobald" ... http://www.duolingo.com/word/de/sobald/Conjunction
you can see the above sentence is listed there ( see picture at the end )
now you have to do the "practice word"-lesson ... and report the punctation error in this ongoing lesson
sometimes you have to do a second "practice word"-lesson if the sentence doesn't occur
usually no more than 3 times ( so maximum 6 questions )
Actually there are also commas missing in the sentence above and below respectively. It seems like somebody applied the comma rule for if-clauses in English in German sentences with sobald. It doesn't work like that though. In German you need a comma whenever a new (sub)clause is starting and since sobald is a conjunction it does start a new subclause.
The same error - a missing comma - occurs in a lot (all?) of the sentences in which "während" introduces a subordinate clause.
Similarly, there are lots of superfluous - wrong - commas in sentences such as these: "Trotz der Zeit, geht sie aus"; "Wegen ihm, beginnen wir", etc.
"Wegen ihm", of course, is also grammatically wrong. Has to be "seinetwegen", sorry folks...
Thanks for posting! We'll take a look. It's always best to send us this kind of stuff through support :)
... bei ("Satz")-Diskussionen wäre es hilfreich .. im ("Support")-Button ... Kategorien anzubieten
beispielsweise: "punctuation error" ... wie in dem vorliegenden Beispiel
oder gibt es eventuell schon so etwas wie Stichworte, die man im Titel der Meldung verwenden könnte, da die Titelzeile computertechnisch auf vorkommende Stichworte ausgewertet wird?
Danke an das ganze DuoLingo-Team
I would, but to be honest I have know idea what "sending something through support" means, exactly. Is there a button or something somewhere that I've overlooked? The same kind of errors occur in many German sentences in the "Learn English from German" section, BTW.
Thanks for asking! "support" tab should always be available on the left side of your screen. If you don't see it, something may be wrong...please let us know here if that's the case.
