Why is this not "THE girls drink milk"? Also, would the sentence "niñas beben leche" make sense, or does it need the "las" at the beginning?

This is a difference between English and Spanish. In Spanish you cannot say "niñas beben leche". "Las niñas beben leche" translates to both "The girls drink milk" and "Girls drink milk".
