I am reading an english book, which i know in (my mother-language) German, sooo great!
Just, i wanted to share this experience. Its a great experience for me even though i dont understand every word, but i know the intent of the book.
i recommend reading books in the foreign language, which you also know (very well) in your mother-language. thats a great thing!
Thanks to all, who are working a lot here on duolingo! Duolingo makes me very happy!!!! acegikl
That's the way to go. :-) Another great thing is that you can read many books when they are published in English. You don't have to wait any longer for some German translation. This also reduces the chance of accidentally hearing a spoiler.
Hey, my main language is German too. A other good way to learn english aswell is watching TV shows in English ( Fringe, The walking dead or breaking bad ). To do this you need the basic english skills, if you use english subtitles it is the best, ( english subtitles and dubbing ) so you can see how the word is written and you can understand the word if you don´t even know it. In the show you can understand what the new word is meaning and you have a content to remember the word.
Alles gute wünscht dir krytech :)
GREAT! Thank You for ALL Replies and Ideas! I will have a look, what i want to do next. I fear, i have to split myself, because my interests are more big than my spare-time
Congratulations! one of the most useful things I've done to learn Spanish is to read Harry Potter in Spanish.
I am doing this to improve my German as well (native English speaker). Reading German books on my Kindle is especially great since I can look up words or entire paragraphs when needed.
You are also in luck that so many things are published in English. Keep up the good work!
If I may offer some help as well: - Rather than the infinitive "to read", English would say "I recommend reading books in the foreign language..." - The conjunction you wanted in your second sentence was "even though" - It's a great experience for me even though I don't understand every...."
Great English, keep reading!
Hi Christopher, thank you very much for your corrections including explanations! i am akways glad for correction of my english. i know this text has again mistakes. but i think, you know, how difficult it is to learn a foreign language, even though a very very interesting, nice and great affair. Alice.
I did that about 100 years ago - well, really, only about 50 or so. It was a Zane Grey book, of which my sister had a copy, so I had read hers. I found it in the library in Erie, PA, in German.
That's , what i hope to do anytime too. English Books looks so far more interesting than german ones g
yeah, do you have a book (for beginning maybe a children-book with simple sentences/words), that you know very well in your mother -tongue, then you can try to get this book in english and then, lets go... and read :-) its very very interesting, as you said! Good Luck!
