The country needs to reduce its deficit. Duolingo doesn't accept this translation. Why?

I'm thinking you need DEBER for that feeling. The given translation is truer to the Spanish.

Although nation is one of the hover definitions, it is not accepted in the translation as of 02/24/2014. I believe it is a valid translation so I reported it. After all, it is referred to as the 'national deficit'.

I suggest nation is more likely to be nación, but país is also a valid translation. Does anyone know whether it is acceptable yet?

Still having trouble with my listening... sigh. I thought they said "el pares..." The couple needs to reduce their deficit... Must be that transference, or projection, or whatever the psychiatrists call it! :)

The country needs to reduce the deficit should also be correct. We often do not use the possessive when referring to things like taxes or deficits. Psychologically, maybe we should, linguistically it is correct.
