whats the difference between "sie" and "ihr"

i do not understand when a have to used it, for example . why is "ich danke ihnen " ( i thank yuou) why can not be "ich danke sie" or "ich danke du" the three means you right?? (du, sie, ihr)..... please help.

"du" and "Sie" is "you" informal and formal nominative. The verb "danken" requires a dative object "du" -> "dir", "Sie" -> "Ihnen"
