Verbit: Ryhmä 3 - The type 3 verbs

Do you remember the verb opiskella? This group includes verbs that end in two consonants and a vowel. You get the stem by dropping the two last letters. You need to add -e- before personal suffixes. In the 3rd person singular, the e is repeated.

Tulla, to come. The -la is dropped to form the stem.

  • (minä) tul-e-n
  • (sinä) tul-e-t
  • hän tul-e-e
  • (me) tul-e-mme
  • (te) tul-e-tte
  • he tul-e-vat

Tulla requires the elative - and in some cases the ablative.

  • Tulen ruokakaupasta. I am coming from the grocery shop.
  • Tulet puistosta. You are coming from the park.
  • Hän tulee rautatieasemalta. He is coming from the railway station.

Let me know should there be any mistakes with these.

Handy mnemonics for recognizing the verb type 3 are: Ella (the ending, but also a name) and E3 (If you imagine the E in cursive and hand written it's like the mirror image of three)

Good thing you're goldening your German tree, Z. I've even caught up! :)

There were many new long words in this one, and I struggled a remembering them during the exercise. I do notice that I need to write down words to remember them. Just reading is not sufficient for me. It is also more fun to practice vocabulary with the translation exercises. I also like the question/answer versions in some previous exercises.

Thanks again for making these lessons!

I must admit I don't remember all of the vocabulary. I've been meaning to add some of the words on Memrise to practice, but haven't got around to doing it yet. On the other hand, even having to look it up again and again helps to remember it.

You could make flashcards of the sentences in the exercises.

I think I went a bit overboard with the vocabulary on this one. I will go through it again in the next lesson, when I will write about the illative. I hope that helps a little. :)

Thanks, done!

Erm, I hate to say it, but there's one again. You've missed the fourth answer in the first exercise - You are coming from the library. But don't worry, I have skipped one too. :)

Thank you. I edited.
