Is there a way to disable the flirting app?

October 14, 2015

Given this was posted in the Educators forum, are you asking if there's a way to disable the Flirting bonus lesson for your students?

Hi Ms. Terri! It is not possible for teachers to disable bonus skills (such as flirting) at this time, but it is something we might work on. Tell us more about how this would help you, and I will make sure the team is aware. :]

I would also like to disable the flirting bonus skill for my students.

I would like to disable the flirting skill because my students do not need to know how to say "your place or mine". Or at least take out the vulgar ones.

I would also like to disable this option. Some of the phrases are totally sexist and not appropriate for 12-14 year olds. Duolingo is a great learning tool but if parents complain they are learning vulgar chat up lines in my class I will have to ban using it completely.

My school would like to use Duolingo, but the flirting bonus is a huge point of contention. We have been using another language program, but Duolingo is better in every way---this is the only drawback thus far, and it is a deal breaker for our staff/parents. If we are able to turn the option on/off for that particular bonus we would in 100% agreement to move forward with Duo! I see that some say that it is a bonus and should be used at the user's own risk (which I agree with), however, when it comes to working with students we cannot be that helter-skelter.

It's a bonus. With this in mind, I think it doesn't need to be disabled. It's something that people buy at their own risk.... They don't have to do that to get scores and whatnot. Just tell them not to buy it, But if they do, Its not your fault(They can sign up to duolingo again just to buy it, You can't stop them to)...

I would like to have the option to disable bonus skills such as flirting. Can this be done? This lesson would not be appropriate for the students (elementary level) that I am teaching and we would have to stop the Duolingo program at my school. Thanks!

Please allow teachers to block this bonus skill for certain classes. The phrases are vulgar, sexist and not appropriate for young kids.

Has any progress been made toward disabling the flirting bonus? It's not appropriate for the 10-11 year olds that I teach.

Please give teachers the ability to disable flirting. I was excited to incorporate Duolingo into my classes, but I fear this will keep me from doing so. It just is not appropriate.
