French Listening Challenge

I'm making good progress through my french tree, and my reading comprehension has improved greatly. However, I feel like my listening comprehension is just falling on the wayside.

So, I'm going to challenge myself to 10 minutes of french 'listening' a day. This can be TV, Movies, YouTube, podcasts, music, or anything. Just as long as I'm hearing french and trying to decipher it.

If anyone else wants to join in, we can check in here and say what we listened to that day (and share links!)

Today I listened to this: (understood random, easy words) Had much better luck with the kids stuff. :P

And I watched a few minutes of Harry Potter et l'Ordre du Phenix. Again, caught a few words but not much.

If you haven't tried this yet, I would suggest listening to an audiobook while reading the book. That way, you can anticipate the sound of words or a sentence as it is being said, and you can either confirm your expectation or immediately have it corrected.

IMHO, you could not start better than with these easy stories with French subtitles , such as "The Greatest Treasure." As soon as you start hearing the French w/ understanding, try doing w/o the French subtitles. That's also a good thing to do here at Duolingo.

There is more beginner-intermediate audio material on YouTube, and what you want to work up to is unabridged material such as what is on this audiobook site.

Today I listened to 'Cendrillon' on a french audio fairy tales app I downloaded, on my way to work. Still picking up odd words, but listening to something I knew the jist of, I was able to figure out where I was in the story.

Peppa pig in French is a good children's cartoon to help with French comprehension. Just search on YouTube.

I'm still going strong on this. Listened to some of La Petit Prince, this time with the e-book as well. I've previously read it in English, following along okay though the speed the reader goes is well beyond me. :)
