desde luego

Hi, Why "desde luego" means "of course" while it literally means "since later"? I think it's confusing ! What's the difference between "desde luego" and "por supuesto"?

Por supuesto also does not literally mean of course. All words, that are not literally translated and have specific meanings like those, need memorizing. Because this is the language, there is no explanation for it.

of course= desde luego, por supuesto o claro, desde luego and por supuesto is the same, but in the spoken spanish is more usually "claro" i am native
