Perhaps for "someone is by the door". We could say it more naturally using staan or zitten (depending if the person is standing or sitting) " Er staat iemand bij de deur"

If i want to say "someone is by the door", wouldn't it be "Er is bij aan de deur" ?

Er is iemand bij de deur I suppose. But it sounds rather weird.
