Are there any other native English speakers out there who would use the word "instruct" in this context? I would say "teaches".

I would say instruct is definitely wrong in this context, it needs to be 'instructs in', otherwise it means she is instructing the drawing, rather than teaching people how to draw. But even 'instructs in' would be odd here. Definitely 'teaches' is better.
