Language Exchange suggestions?

Hi everyone I was just thinking about the huge Duolingo community (10 million users, according to wikipedia!!) and the fact that so many people are learning each other's languages.. it would be great to be able to take full advantage of this and help each other, perhaps by being able to connect with native speakers (other than on the discussion board) or "chat" with them to improve pronunciation.. what do you think? does anybody have any other suggestions or ideas? By the way I LOVE Duolingo, I am making so much progress with Portuguese, a big THANK YOU/grazie/gracias/obrigada/merci/danke and well done to the Duolingo staff for the amazing work!! Keep it up :-)

A chat option would be really useful. If you search a language exchange partner right now, please have a look at http://www.conversationexchange.com/ =)

Second that! It'd make the process of learning a language a whole lot more fun.

I believe it was Samsta who suggested www.espanglishchat.com I've used it and I really like it. It's just a chat room where people use English and Spanish.

There is another site that is sort of like Espanglishchat, but it has a lobby and links to several chatrooms for learners of different languages, but I don't remember the name of it. I need to do some research.

I'll report back once I do!

I found the French "equivalent" of Espanglishchat.com

It's called http://www.french-chat.com. It's a little more strict than Espanglischat, though, because they only allow French to be spoken in the chatroom.

About 8 or 10 years ago I had an account at www.livemocha.com They already had a system like this. It is easy to get an overview of all the members by detailed search. When creating a profile you should tell all the languages you speak with the level from beginner to native speaker. If you write a text in a language you are learning you can post it to the cloud and send the link to your text to somebody to correct. Everybody can comment even the corrections. The more corrections you do and get points from others for your corredtions the higher your level there. I was very active there and as native German speaker I reached the level "teacher" within one year. There are more languages than here but the courses are basic only. If you want to improve your knolledge you only can ask others or send pm to them. When I used it there wasn't any chatroom at all. I really don't remember why I stopped there, less time due to my job or because they started to ask for money ...

I would strongly be for the chat option. This way we could not only chat with sb but also turn to sb to ask an advice or for help
