Site doesn't give time to use mic
I've been doing my lessons daily for at least a week or more. Today, starting at 5:00 am, whenever I came to a page where I was required to talk into the mic, as soon as I hit the mic icon, the error came up, saying "I can't hear ..." Hitting the icon again, again, was an instant message: "Let's move on...." It's nearly 12 hours later, and still the same problem.
Mic section still isn't working properly. First, it says it can't hear then, if I'm lucky before it cuts me off, it says "let's move on..." as though my pronunciation is in correct. Not! I know this is free so I feel sort of bad for complaining...but, daggone, I'm not reaching my goals...haven't really been able to use the site for a couple of days. Please fix. I need you guys!
For whatever reason, it's working fine now. A fluke...gremlins...I don't know. I didn't do a thing, but wait it out for a few days. It's back to normal.
Yeah, Rosetta Stone, Babbel and now even Pimsleur are very expensive.
Thank you, Duolingo!!
I am also having this problem! I wanted to try using the mic on my laptop (running Chrome on Mac), but clicking the button automatically submits, without giving time to talk. Hopefully they resolve this quickly. I was so excited to use the mic.
I had this problem in Chrome, maybe it's too late for you, i don't know. I found that i had disabled my Camera/Mic within my browser, and there was a small button on the right havd side of the URL bar, requesting access. If there is no button then there will be a setting to allow it within your browser, but without specific details, i can't help much more than that :)
Unfortunately this isn't the issue with mine as I checked all my Chrome settings and it should be in working order. I think it may be a plug-in error. I have tried updating Flash and it's still not responding properly. The site is currently not loading properly in Safari. Will try again on Firefox or another browser and report back.
I'm sure it's not flash, Google Chrome (1/2 of my current browsers) has completely disabled all flash support. Other than that I don't have a clue. My Duolingo has decided to completely stop giving me speaking lessons/revision.
I do love this site, and the content, but with 7 days of use, I'm finding a bug every other day :(
Have you tried turning it back on in the account options?
It's too bad the speaking lessons are so buggy. At the very least, although it may be buggy, it's free! And I can't argue with in depth easy to follow free content. :D
Yeah, I've turned it on and off a couple of times now. I had them to begin with but now all of a sudden, Poof gone. But yes, of course, this site is wonderful. It's crazy, with $300 Rosetta Stone I still can't get the knowledge that this site offers.
Edit: Turns out I can get speech lessons if i'm using Chrome, that's that mystery solved :)
