Duolingo is the most popular way to learn languages in the world. Best of all, it's 100% free!

先週、私は映画館で英語の映画を見ました。(この文を__に訳しなさい)

The 8th daily translation game! Try and translate this sentence into your language! Above, as usual, I started us out by translating the sentence into Japanese. You can choose any language you like of course, and is not limited to duolingo languages! You can also translate it into 2 or more languages if you are up for the challange! The purpose of this game is for good practice, and of course fun. It will also be cool seing this sentence in other languages, and we can help each other out if we make a mistake, or just learn something new! :D The sentence I put together in english is "Last week, I saw an English movie at the movie theatre."

My last 7 games can be found:

The reason I chose to make this sentence is because I found out it sounds really funny In Japanese, mostly because the beginning of three words are kinda the same. Here it is in english as usual

Senshū, Watashi ha* eigakan de eigo no eiga (w)o mimash(i)ta

Ha*= Pronounced "wa" as a particle

(w)o= Usaully pronounced just "o"

Mimash(i)ta= "i" usually dropped is speach

Danish (no, I still don't understand prepositions so "på" probably doesn't belong here):

Sidste uge, jeg så en engelsk film på biografen.

Greelandic (this translated too smoothly and now I'm a little scared):

Sapaatip-akunnerani qaangiuttumi, takuara tuluit filmiliaat biografimi.

Latvian (Latvian speakers, you have permission to laugh at me because I only found my book today after a... six month hiatus?!):

Pagājušajā nedēļā, es skatījos angļu filmiu kinoteātrī.

Your Danish translation is almost correct: I sidste uge så jeg en engelsk film i biografen.

How do you make words bold or italic? Using html?

Tak! To make something italic, surround the text with one asterisk on either side, and use two to make it bold :) I'm afraid I'm not tech-savy enough to know anything about html!

Thank you! Well, I can hope that's the case - I think I'm getting the hang of actually choosing the correct dictionary entries, so I guess that's an improvement, at least! ^.^

Vorige week zag ik een Engelse film in de bioscoop. (Dutch)

The English film part kind of goes without saying though, there is hardly any Dutch speaking cinema :p

https://www.duolingo.com/NukuchAjau

Haha, really? Now that I think about it, I have never really seen a Dutch speaking cinema, but then I again I really don't watch many movies and If I do they are mainstream ones in theatres.

Thanks for the translation, and awesome job :D

A movie in English: 지난주엔 영화관에서 영어 영화를 한 편 봤어. (Jinanju-en yeonghwagwan-eseo yeongeo yeonghwareul han pyeon bwasseo.)

An English movie (from England): 지난주엔 영화관에서 영국 영화를 한 편 봤어. (Jinanju-en yeonghwagwan-eseo yeongguk yeonghwareul han pyeon bwasseo.)

It really, really depends on the context, though. I kind of arbitrarily chose "last week" as the topic, and the plain, neutral form of the verb, so the sentence as written kind of answers the question "What did you do last week?" and suggests that I'm talking to a close friend and I'm going to discuss more about the movie I watched. I might also say 난 지난주에 영화관에서 영어 영화를 봤어, in which case the focus is on me and what I did.

Realistically, if this was just an introductory sentence and I planned to explain more about what the movie was about or what happened next, I'd probably use 봤는데 (bwanneunde) or 봤거든 (bwatgeodeun) instead of 봤어.
