Good resource for learning Urdu (اردو)
I saw a person that was looking to contribute for Urdu, and I decided to start learning it in preparation for the eventual release of the course. To learn urdu, I use this service: http://www.educationpyramid.com/urdu/beginner-level-course-in-urdu-language-for-non-native-urdu-speaker/
I watch each video three times. The first time I just watch, the second time I write the words or letters into my اردو book, and test myself throughout the video by covering the meanings up, and the third time I write them onto flash cards. I also use the Memrise course for the alphabet http://www.memrise.com/course/100492/the-urdu-alphabet/ and I will begin to use Memrise for each of the videos. I hope this helped!
Just gonna throw it out there, Memrise is the best for learning a new writing system/alphabet for the language you are learning. Without memrise, I would have never learned ひらがな and カタカナ , and I know them reallly well now. It also really helps with 漢字. You made a good choice using memrise to help build your urdu alphabet memory ;)
Anyway, good resources!
Thanks! I already have one: what is the difference between alif and alif mada aa?
alif sounds like 'a' but alif mad aa sounds like a double 'a'. There's a difference between the pronunciation of ا and آ. People pronounce alif mad aa from the throat like Arabs.
Ah! That makes sense now! Thanks! Have you heard back from Duo about Urdu for English yet?
I got an email from duo a day after I applied for the Urdu course. They said someone would contact me when there's an opening in the incubator. That's the last thing I heard from them
That's good! Once a few courses leave the incubator, Urdu can enter! Can't wait for the day that the course is completed ! :)
