It says it's 100% done and should have been done two days ago. I am so confused.

The course is just about ready. They do not say it should have been released two days ago, just that the creators are done. The date was modified to today again, but I doubt it will be done before Monday. I am not sure what else needs to be done by the administration to finally release it. I have not heard that the voice recordings were completed. This report states that two days ago, the creators said it would be a few days away. That sounds so hopefully close!

I'm baffled by how many people, while able to find the page that shows the progress of the Russian-for-English course, still seem unable to read this:

The creation of the Russian course is complete. It took more than 18 months, and finally the end result is just round the corner, a few days away.

and then come to the forum to ask about it.

Maybe because "complete" means nothing left to do, so it's obviously not complete. I thought they were still testing the TTS.

Not really. We tested all the Text-to-Speech solutions available in January. This particular engine proved working fine in early October.

Well, the status page says otherwise.

Our TTS is now up and running in the Testbed! Saying this, we still have quite a bit of work to do before we release the course.

If you cared to read an update written a year and a half ago, it says that we have just started creating the course.

Which does not mean that we have just started creating the course. Because we wrote that in the Spring of 2014.

You mean this page? https://www.duolingo.com/course/ru/en/Learn-Russian-Online

Contrary to what many more experienced forum users think, many people are not aware of the incubator webpage.

In that case I wonder when the "100 %" information comes from.

Confusion all around - I did not know Russian was already being listed in the courses. (That still doesn't explain where the OP got the date from, though, if not from the incubator page.)

Maybe it is the "boy who cried wolf" syndrome. If they have often reported finish dates that turned out to be unreliable, people may have come to distrust what is reported, and may be looking for more reliable information.

"if" is the right word. It is known for a fact that we very rarely made predictions that turned to be completely wrong. You can check our update history on the course page.

They don't report finish dates. Duolingo calculates them based on various things that are outside the control of the authors.

To be fair, when you try to add a new language and see the box with Russian and click it, you DON'T see the updates. You have to go into the incubator to find that, which I think is ridiculous.

I wish they would just put 'coming soon' up or something, it would be less frustrating to look at.

It says 100% done because they finished translating all the words. Now the people at Duolingo have to look over the tree, and make sure everything is good. If everything is good, then they release the course.

We are not translating any words and never were. The course is simply finished, so it is 100%.

There is nothing in particular left to be done by contributors.

For anyone confused about percentages and so forth, if you go to "add a new course" from your user icon and scroll to Russian, it says it is at 100%, but not yet in beta. It gives you this page: https://www.duolingo.com/course/ru/en/Learn-Russian-Online

It does NOT contain any updates from the team, only a list of the team members and a projected completion date that is calculated by Duolingo, not by the team.

There is also the incubator page at https://incubator.duolingo.com/courses/ru/en/status

This one often has a DIFFERENT projected date, which is also out of control of the team. I think they update at different times, so depending on what is being done, it spits out different dates.

THAT ONE does have updates from the team.

They should just point to the same page and have all of the info, along with like...a little question mark next to the date where if you mouseover, it says "This date is automatically calculated by the Duolingo system and may not be accurate to the Team's estimate"

https://www.duolingo.com/NAYasseen

We know the course is done, we are all just so excited and are waiting for the release into Beta.. the dates provided by Duolingo are a bit frustrating though, it keeps changing the estimated date of release and it is driving us all crazy.. We're looking for a more reliable source to provide us with a more accurate date.. No undermining of anybody's effort is intended. We're hopelessly waiting for the course to be available, that's all!
