I thought Beine was a bee
Eine Biene (f) is a bee. Ein Bein (n) is a leg. Eine Biene hat sechs Beine.
I was wondering if German had a different word than Beine for the legs of animals?
It seems not. Neither in English nor in German, according to http://context.reverso.net/traduction/francais-allemand/pattes. Nothing like "jambe" and "pattes" in French.
