"Деревня там" sounds more like "The village is there".

This is not the correct word order for "There is a village there" in Russian.

Is there any link between Деревь and деревня? Maybe before villages were made of wood... I don't know! This info would help me memorising this word more easily...

Also, are there other words for village? Maybe you differentiate different types of villages. Like I said, maybe this one is a village with wooden houses or something.

Wiktionary says that the relation between дерево and деревня is debatable. The other common word for village is село - a деревня with a church.
