Russian - Alphabet question
Hi, I would really like to start the Russian course. I know a bit Russian, but I have severe difficulties in reading Russian words in Latin letters. I cannot start the course with "normal" (Russian) letters. How do I switch to Russian letters right away? Thank you! Frauke
There's a blue icon with letters "Aa" on it, above on the screen when you start a lesson. Click on it and it will turn to Cyrillic. :)
Aww :/ That's so strange! Are you on by mobile? If yes, as I know, the icon there doesn't show up, only when you're on by PC.
Got it! I had been looking for the icon BEFORE clicking at the lesson. Thank you!
I do not see the Cyrillic letters (to type answers in the response field) on my laptop screen. Is this because Russian just came out in beta? Can the Cyrillic letters not be typed out yet or if it's just my screen I can't view them on?
I can change my keyboard to Russian letters - "outside" duolingo on my laptop via "configuration". (Sorry I am not good at explaining this, English is not my native language.)
Your English is good Siebenraben. I understand exactly what you are saying, thank you for your assistance.
They have not included any like in other courses. Get yourself a Cyrillic keyboard (preferably in the settings of your system). I prefer to use a phonetic keyboard where when you type the Latin letter on your keyboard the equivalent Cyrillic keyboard is written.
Could you tell me how I might get a phonetic keyboard for mac? As my Russian keyboard is not phonetic and it's driving me crazy after only one lesson.
I don’t use a Mac but maybe someone other can help you! On the mobile phone I am pretty used now to not have a phonetic keyboard layout for Russian but on the computer I could not type with a non-phonetic layout.
On a Mac, go to System Preferences, Language & Text. You ought to be able to mark which keyboards you'd like to have available. There is Russian and also Russian-Phonetic. (Along with ~800 others!!) Then, in the upper right of your screen, you can choose which of your marked keyboards you want to use. (Russian-Phonetic looks like a Russian flag with a small blue diamond on the side.)
Wow - I found a lot of option there - unfortunately no Russian - phonetic - maybe I should try an update.
I will find out how to change my keyboard when I am practicing Russian. Thank you both for your responses!
