Why is "we take a bus" wrong? In other languages like Italian, it's the same word/form.

Because it's imperative, not a description of a situation. If it were, you'd say "Nous prenons un bus" or "On prend un bus".

In the French present tense, the subject is mandatory. "We take a bus" would be "Nous prenons un bus".
