Am I going mad or did I lose a checkpoint?

I could've sworn there was a checkpoint just after the short/long (I'm guessing adjectives) line and just before House and Reflexive, but it seems to have vanished. Am I going crazy? And is there a link for the checkpoint test elsewhere?

Thanks for the link - unfortunately it's taking me right back to the home page. I guess my tree is really broken :-/

Hopefully once it's out of beta it'll be working smoothly

What's weird is that I had it, but then it just vanished!

My tree has it :P

What is weird, is that mototexas's link takes me to an exercise with the old hearts progress bar, whereas otherwise lessons present the more recent, "heartless" progress bar.

Looks like there is some bigtime A/B testing going on. Of course, you may be going mad, as well.

The hearts are for when you test out - if you test out of a skill or skills, it looks a lot like the old hearts system, you even get a lingot if you test out with zero errors.

Oh, that's interesting. Thanks for telling me. I never try to test out, obviously. It still does look like there's A/B testing going on, as you lost the checkpoint but I have it.

From what gisberth says, I think maybe attempts at testing out at a checkpoint are limited. My tablet has this irritating habit of just stalling up in the middle of a test and so sometimes I have to restart. Makes taking progress tests v annoying, and it's just as well I have a big pile of lingots lying around...

For the checkpoint test I went 'blow this for a game of soldiers' and went to try on my laptop instead... and then it was gone. So I guess as far as Duolingo was concerned, I missed my chance :-/

Yes, only 3 tries is what they originally announced. You've kinda been rooked. Looks like you've got some plodding ahead of you. . . . Well, practice makes better, they say. There's got to be some things in all that material that will be helpful to you. . . . At least you've got one less reason to think you're going mad. ;)

FWIW, I go through everything for the practice, but lately I've been wondering if that's the best thing to do.

Well it was only five skills, and I don't think I'm gonna manage the twenty for the next skill, so I'll live!

I usually work on the principle that what I test out of I'll go back and practise later, and what I don't test out of I probably need to go through the lessons in more detail! I know I'll go be going back and regilding everything, because I've been looking forward to having the daily poke to practise my Russian and I think I probably need (even) more practice on the later parts of the tree.

Plus, I admit, I'm really looking forward to having my Russian-scarved Duo <3

I must've missed that you only get three tries on the checkpoint test, I'll know for the future.

One time I as well lost a checkpoint. I think it was after the third invalid try to master it. Moreover, all following checkpoints had gone.

How strange! I have the very last checkpoint, but while I think I maybe could've tested out of the five skills left before this one, I don't think I have 20 skills in me!

You can prevent losing the checkpoint by restarting the test before losing it, but if you don't have the skills in you, you should do them anyway.

I just realised what must've happened - I switched devices because the test was freezing up on me on my tablet. I guess between the freezing up and the switching of devices, Duolingo must've decided I had used up all my chances :-/

I'll know next time and not start on the tablet. For some reason it's not fond of the testy-type parts of Duolingo, I've lost goes at progress tests several times, but I have a lot of lingots floating about so it's never been an issue - I just pay again. But I guess if the checkpoint to test out keeps an eye on that, I need to do any future testing out on something more reliable!
