What is the difference between 'tusenvis av' and 'tusentalls'? Why does the one have 'av' and the other doesn't?

They have the same meaning, but 'tusenvis av' is more common. 'tusentalls' is more like a number (for some reason unknown), so it the 'av' is optional for it.

Thank you, so 'tusenvis av' is like 'thousands of' and 'tusentalls' is more like just 'thousands'? Small differences.

I don't know if there's a good way of translating it. Literally it would kind of be like "thousandnumbered (of)".
