It reminds me of the book "The Hobbit" when Bilbo insults the spiders and calls them "Attercop". Maybe this is where is originated...

Tolkien was a professor of Old Norse, familiar with 16 dialects, so most definitely "attercop" and "edderkopp" share a common origin.
