Hi there!

I just started learning Dutch. And I look for the materials on the internet to learn from the very beginning, such as conjugation of verbs, nouns, etc.

If any dutch-speaker reads this, don't hesitate to link any resources available on the internet.

Thank you very much in advance!

Hello! I am learning Dutch since October :)

My goal is to understand all the basic items and to be able to speak about myself/my life/my job etc., to ask basic questions and to know some simple expressions and phrases.

I use:

  1. http://omniglot.com/writing/dutch.htm - basic overview of Dutch, alphabet etc.
  2. http://en.bab.la/conjugation/dutch/ - Dutch conjugation tool
  3. www.learndutch.org/lessons/introduce-yourself-in-dutch/ - a lot of free Dutch lessons from the very beginning
  4. http://www.loecsen.com/travel/0-en-67-2-25-free-lessons-dutch.html - basic Dutch phrases (with audio and pictures)
  5. http://www.gutenberg.org/browse/languages/nl - free online books in Dutch
  6. http://www.trecento.com/lfriedl/dutch/ - simple grammar rules with exercises and good explanations

I usually read a lot of texts in Dutch, it helps me to improve and expand my Dutch vocabulary:

News in Dutch: http://www.telegraaf.nl/ - de Telegraaf, NL http://www.volkskrant.nl/ - de Volkskrant, NL http://www.onlinenewspapers.com/netherla.htm - all the NL Newspapers online http://www.demorgen.be/ - de Morgen, Belgium http://www.standaard.be/ - de Standaard, Belgium

Some sources for listening: http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/nation?ccode=nl - all radio stations in NL http://www.radio1.be/ - Radio 1, Belgium

Just for fun: http://www.uebersetzung.at/twister/nl.htm - Dutch tongue twisters http://www.mylanguageexchange.com/HmanList.asp?x3=17 - language games in Dutch

I spend at least 40 minutes per day for Dutch. These exercises on Duolingo make me really happy. I've made remarkable progress in Dutch during the last week and I thank Duolingo's sentences for that :) Veel geluk!!!

I've used the book Taal Vitaal (beginners) a few years ago and I found it quite good. It comes with audio CDs, I think each book is about 90 euro (a bit expensive for me, my Dutch teacher had lent me her copy) but perhaps you can find a used copy on the internet (like on ebay or sth).

Memrise.com has a list of the duolingo nouns and whether they go with "de" or "het". There is also a ton of other stuff on there as well for Dutch or any other language. IMO it is the second best free app for learning languages out there. Also, futurelearn.org has an introduction to Dutch free course that teaches more conversational Dutch and it is going on right now. It's pretty good.

Know of any Dutch course that has decent audio? I gave up on finding one so I abandoned Memrise. :(

I admit that it isn't very good all the time, but if I turn my volume up all the way on the "Dutch Duolingo DE or HET" course it isn't too bad.

The problem for me is its inconsistency. Sometimes it's too quiet and sometimes it's too loud. Hopefully it'll be better in the future! :)

If you can afford it, the book "Colloquial Dutch" is a really good starting point, and covers a lot of stuff well.

Another book I recommend is "essential Dutch Grammar" by Henry R Stern. It's a really good reference for all things grammar related.
