I used to get oppdagelse and oppfinnelse confused all the time, and one of the things I study is how Americanness is constructed, so when I first saw this sentence I was like, "The invention of America! Coooooooool!"

I get really confused with the structure "The _ of _" Sometimes in Norwegian it's "Oppdagelsen av Amerika" (the discovery of America) and sometimes its "fysikkens lover" (Physics' laws/ The laws of physics) I think I went the other way with both- "Amerikas oppdagelse" and "Lovene av fysikk" but it wasn't accepted. Is there a way of understanding when to use what?

Det var ikke en "oppdagelse", det var en invasjon. Lenge leve eurosentrismen!
